OPP & Natives Fight it out in Caledonia on Sat. July 22, 2006
You Heard it Here First!
We have recieved a few eye witness reports about a fight between Natives and OPP - here are two accounts.

J. writes, "On Saturday, July 23 about 5 PM in the parking lot at the Lion's Hall by the baseball park in Caledonia there was a major conflict between the Natives from the DEC and the OPP.

There was about 20 to 25 young adults gathered near the baseball park minding their own business when a group of 8 natives showed up. The Natives were cursing, intimidating trying to entice the Caledonia people by calling them names and trying to get them to fight however the Caledonia people kept cool heads.

The people of Caledonia did not want any part of the Native taunting and desire for violence. This went on for about an hour and the Caledonia people maintained cool heads, the OPP arrived via their cars and bikes. The OPP asked the Natives to go away.

HOWEVER, the supposed peaceful NATIVES ATTACKED THE OPP. The ensuing fight that occurred between the OPP officers resulted in the OPP Officers using mace to control the 6 Natives, two of the Natives ran away and the six remaining Natives were wrestled to the ground and secured with plastic tie wraps and put into the OPP cars.

The OPP out manned the Natives which was good because for a while the fight did not look very good for the OPP Officers because the Natives were getting the upper hand till the OPP used the Mace.

So much for peaceful Natives. No Caledonia citizens were involved in the fight and the racial comments that the Natives took part in and their fighting."

D. writes, "I would like to tell you of an incident in Caledonia on Sat July 22/06 that may or may not be reported by the OPP.

At about 5.30 pm my wife and I were passing by the new Caledonia Library /Arena  and to our surprise Chaos was happening in the parking lot there were at least a dozen OPP cruisers with lights going ,at least 20 cops wrestling and fighting with a group of  8 to 10 Young Natives dressed in camouflage gear who were causing some kind of problem with local Caledonia residents , people driving down the road had to pull over as Natives were being chased down the street across fields into residents backyards , Some of the Natives stood their ground and physically assaulted several OFFICERS ( I am an eye witness to these events )

After several minutes of exchanging blows with blood being shed on both sides, the OPP officers managed to get the situation under control ,a few of the natives managed to escape the pursuit of the police.

I did see a few of the attackers being put into handcuffs and cruisers and taken away

The Cops are thick as flies in Caledonia tonight."
