This represents 210,000 contraband cigarettes worth $23,100 that were not properly packaged or stamped and were destined to be sold illegally. The driver of the van that the contraband cigarettes were located in had fled the scene after being picked up by another vehicle nearby. The investigation continues by the Cornwall Community Police Service and the RCMP. The registered owner of the van is a 28 year old male resident of Pilon Island in Akwesasne, Ontario. Public safety and security is our fundamental priority. Here is another example of the dangers that exist for our motoring public when the drivers transporting illicit tobacco to its destination get involved in collisions on our roadways.
