Will be no winners in native standoff
Jul. 12, 2006 - Letter in Toronto Star
OPP officers and the public are fully aware the Caledonia native standoff has and is being mishandled. The police top brass (Gwen Boniface) and the Dalton McGuinty government have made career-damaging mistakes in judgment. The Star has erred in pushing this important story to the back pages. This Caledonia failure will cost Boniface her job, McGuinty his government and will forever undermine the public perception and support for native rights and entitlements. This will wind up costing taxpayers hundreds of millions. There will be no winners. The hero of this piece is Superior Court Justice David Marshall, who will no doubt be heard from very soon. letter by: Brian Rudolph, Toronto
