Shame, shame, shame on us
Here are my two cents...
Letter from one of our readers - Aug 26, 2006
I do believe that a negotiated settlement is the only way to resolve this difficult situation. But there are no sure settlements here.
After a deal is struck (and a deal will be struck) between the government and Six Nations in 2006~2007 in the future, after a month or year, or possibly another generation, another group within the Six nations community will rise up once more and declare that their deal is unfair and the only way to resolve it is with blockades AGAIN!.
The deal struck was unfair to our people, you got us all drunked up, we were swindled again with promises... Excuses will abound and blockades will be the flavor of the month with terrorism tactics being the mode of greed and forced negotiations.
The government has now set a precedent. By appealing Judge Marshall's decision and reopening negotiating under the continued threat of violence in Caledonia, the native communities everywhere are watching and learning that the McGuinty way is best for them because they now know that a terrorist blockade in any community is the only way to a financially successful windfall for six nations everywhere where whatever they have done will be without criminal prosecution. The six nations can do their terrorism tactics whenever and however they want while the OPP stand by, and be free from criminal prosecution.
Shame, shame, shame on us for allowing ourselves to be placed in this situation
