Letter to Editor: Peterson calls us Whackos
Sept 27, 2006

To The Editor,

This letter is to object to the offensive remarks of Dave Peterson, in calling those citizens, who wish to march in Caledonia for equal treatment under the laws of this land "Whackos". This name calling is certainly an all time low for those appointed or elected to represent the taxpayers and residents of this Town and Province. On retrospect these remarks are from a man who chose to bribe the natives on DCE to behave by handing over the Burtch Lands, paid for by you and me. It is unconscionable for Peterson to malign those who have endured months of conflict, crime ignored by police, public destruction of property, and acts of aggression including attempted murder. What recourse does the public have????

Perhaps in his wisdom, Mr. Peterson could calculate the costs of the results of these conflicts on the people living in Caledonia. What price should be extolled for post-traumatic stress, nervous break downs, counselling for children, divorces, financial ruin and fear. These are the sacrifices these residents are expected to endure willingly while the governement dithers away for perhaps years at a resolution, one that the residents have no input into or the ability to help solve. As taxpayers, we all deserve better representation than the hypocrisy from this blowhard.

Sincerely Mary-Lou LaPratte - Ipperwash
