Letter - A solution for smoke shacks?

The Regional

July 29, 2009

I have a suggestion pertaining to the illegal smoke shacks that seem to pop up along the hi-way 6 corridor.

Don't get me wrong, I have no axe to grind with any native enterprise and I myself do purchase my smokes on the reservation, but believe the shacks should be confined to reservation land.

Haldimand County and the provincial and federal governments have an obligation to enforce laws and by-laws for everyone. This certainly includes the display and advertisement ban that every other store is threatened with.

I have no axe to grind with the OPP, who in my limited dealings with them have always seemed to be professional and helpful.

My suggestion is to NOT SHOP at the smoke shops along the hi-way. No business, no smoke shop.

It's not as if you have no other choice. I mean c'mon people, go south of Caledonia and turn right on any road and you have your choice of many.

As an added bonus it seems the farther off the beaten path you go, the cheaper the smokes are anyway.
