Letter - Time to take off our dunce caps

The Regional

Sept. 22, 2010

It is time to take off our dunce caps. Most people live here in Caledonia because it used to be a nice town where people could go to bed without fear. All you have to remember is D.C.E. and the good folks on Thistlemoor and surrounding area.

We used to believe it was not possible to have two tier policing. With Fantino gone and a new commissioner appointed, what has changed? Nothing. Most of the councillors did nothing. What did they think they were going to accomplish? Try to get brownie points by harassing the mayor and not supporting her? At least she tried.

Democracy is our system of government. Let us utilize it. As you see all the political signs going up over town, where were all these political wannabes the last four years? You do not have to be a genius to know who stepped up to the plate in the interest of this town.

I would not vote for my father (deceased) if he performed like the last bunch of councillors. When they collect their final pay check they should put a pocket in the back of their shirts so they won't feel guilty collecting their last pay.

If we want to get this town back to where it used to be, we should vote, or encourage those who have stood up for Caledonia for the past four years. Some of these wannabes will try to use the election as a stepping stone for greater political gain.
